Original Oratory (OO)

OO is a fully memorized student written persuasive speech.  Oftentimes speeches address social issues and provide a personal context as well as solutions.  In OO, your  goal is to convince the world to change in 10 minutes flat.

Informative (Info)

Info is a fully memorized student written ten minute presentation.  This may include visual aids. Info should be rooted in educating your audience about something of real value to you as an individual.

 DUO 

The only partnered Speech event, Duo is a fully memorized ten minute performance with no props/costumes, and no touching or looking at your partner.  These may be funny or serious, but are often highly specific and ornate in their blocking.

Dramatic Interpretation (DI)

DI is a fully memorized ten minute dramatic monologue.  While some pieces feature additional voices, most focus on one character. The goal here is really to make your audience cry.  Competitors are expected to imagine and mime a full environment around them.

HI a fully memorized ten minute performance in which a single performer is expected to play multiple roles.  The goal here is really to make your audience laugh, while telling a story that makes sense.  Competitors are expected to imagine and mime a full environment around them.

Program Oral Interpretation (POI)

POI is a fully memorized ten minute performance that unites various genres of writing to support a single thesis or theme.  Students must hold their scripts while they perform.  Programs weave together poetry, prose, news articles, plays, and more to create a tapestry and tell a story that matters to them.  Students are expected to play multiple characters and use their books creatively.

Extemporaneous Speaking

Extemp is an off the cuff speech!  Students prepare a seven minute speech with limited prep analyzing a current political or economic issue.  Students who compete in Extemp should be passionate about current events.
